Our co-opted members for session 2011-12:

Joan Neilson

I live with my husband Gordon and our Labrador Bracken in Penpont. We moved from the central belt to beautiful Dumfries and Galloway 11 years ago.
I have been involved in primary education for 38 years and recently retired from my post as headteacher of a primary school in Dumfries.
I was privileged to be part of so many young people’s lives.
My career also took me to Oregon in the USA for a year where I was convinced of the excellent quality of Scottish Education.
The needs, expectations and qualities of our young people have always been a passion of mine. I continue to contribute to their needs through the local Befriending Management Committee and involvement with the local community through various Rotary activities.
I hope to make a positive contribution to the Parent Council of Wallace Hall Academy.

Chris Simmonds

I am married with 3 children all of whom have been educated at Wallace Hall Academy and I have lived in Thornhill for over 20 years now.
I have been involved with the school for most of this time, firstly as a parent, and for several years assisted with the young enterprise scheme.
I joined the Parent Council as I feel as an ex company director I have a wide range of experience to offer plus a genuine interest in ensuring that Wallace Hall maintains its well-deserved reputation.
I am currently involved with the Prince's Trust, mentoring youngsters to start their own businesses and maximise their potential, and am a past president and active member of Thornhill and District Rotary Club which has a good, active relationship with the school.
